The reactions are examined by certificated IELTS examiners.

All IELTS examiners hold appropriate training skills as they are recruited as examiners by the test centers and authorized by the British Council or IDP: IELTS Australia.

Ratings are reported in whole and half bands. Detailed performance descriptors are developed which describe written performance during the nine IELTS bands. They are available in the How IELTS is scored web page. They affect both IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training variations and therefore are on the basis of the criteria that are following.

Task 1 reactions are examined on:

  • Task accomplishment
  • Coherence and cohesion
  • Lexical resource
  • Grammatical accuracy and range.

Task 2 reactions are examined on:

  • Task reaction
  • Coherence and cohesion
  • Lexical resource
  • Grammatical accuracy and range.
